Today is Kindness Day and lots of people are making little acts of kindness to mark the occasion.
In one of everyone’s favourite Christmas movies, Miracle on 34th Street (1947), Kris Kringle says, “Oh, Christmas isn’t just a day, it’s a frame of mind…and that’s what’s been changing. That’s why I’m glad I’m here, maybe I can do something about it.”
And it’s not even all about giving and receiving kindness. Just witnessing acts of kindness can improve anyone’s day. So a lot of little random acts of kindness can go a very long way towards changing things for everybody.
Every year we have a New Year Tree and all our pals write in messages and memories and we decorate the tree and celebrate with a special story on New Year’s Day. Last year’s New Year Tree was the Cup of Kindness Tree. People donated cups and we bought cups from charity stores and we decorated the tree with kindness. And then in the New Year we donated to local charities all the cups that were collected. It was so much fun and, best of all, it generated so much kindness!
Yes, just like Christmas, kindness isn’t just a day. And that’s why I’m glad I’m here. Maybe my pals and I can do something about it.
