This is Gorgeous.

He really is. His name is Gorgeous.

Legend has it that Deputy won Gorgeous on Brighton Pier, while trying to impress Human. But the truth is that the stall-holder finally sold Gorgeous to Deputy just to get rid of Deputy and one of the longest losing streaks in fun fair history.

We have a lot of bears in this place – Paddington Bear, Humphrey B Bear, Steiff bears, antique bears, new bears, but Gorgeous is a very special bear. First, he is purple, and we all know how we feel about purple in this house. And secondly, he has been around almost as long as Deputy. And finally, he is wearing a scarf that Grand Human made and then looked at the result and laughed no end. This is a regular thing … not the scarf-making, that was a one-off … the laughing. It must be genetic.

Anyway, amazingly, Gorgeous is still in one piece, despite the fact that I love playing with him.

Gorgeous lives in the Lookout Library. I imagine that at night, after we turn off the lights, he sits up until all hours reading books in the window seat streetlight. He has that sort of intellectual demeanour about him. I mean, just look at him!
