That’s News To Me!
Daily dog news from around the globe …
And now for some good news … dogs are making the news for all the right reasons.
A newsreader for Russian station Mir 24 (World 24) was surprised when a new co-anchor turned up during the live broadcast … a black Labrador.
The newsreader, reportedly a cat person, exclaimed loudly when she was surprised by her colleague. She then went on to protest that she was not a dog person. But her co-anchor won her over quickly and she reached over and gave the handsome dog a hug. And they both finished the broadcast with the new co-anchor smiling by the newsreader’s side. Many have called it out as a publicity stunt (the station’s logo is a black Labrador). But who cares!? More dogs should present the news. Just look at Andrew Neil’s co-presenter, Molly Malone, if you need more proof of what a good idea that is.
But it’s not the first time a dog has “interrupted” live TV. Dogs are interested in both news and sports and sometimes they even share the spotlight with cats. In Mexico in January, a dog and a cat enjoyed a very popular pitch invasion during the Pachuca vs. Jaguares Liga MX match. And their prank has a happy ending. The homeless dog went on to be adopted and brought a lot of wonderful attention to the plight of dogs in rescue homes. And the cat has apparently taken up residence in the stadium. And in Peru, two hero reporters saved dogs on two separate occasions during live broadcasts of the floods earlier this year.
Now “that” is good news to me.
