Howard’s Way Ahead – by Howard Spring
Today I discovered that boiling water gurgles and spits with excitement while it makes my eggs, that very big horses go clip clop past the house as they keep law and order in the neighbourhood, that these horse officers are not big enough to reach me sniffing at them in the Lookout Library, that book deliveries make a massive thump when they arrive, that book boxes are tremendously good fun to chomp and rip, that some birds in the garden go chip chip chip chooee, that some other birds in the garden go chook chook chook when they see me, that this might mean they are calling me a chicken (in Australia), that chooks lay eggs and for that I will always be grateful.
And I sleep (on the desk …)
